    Scholarship Program Update

    In response to our members’ requests that we make scholarships and support for students and seasonal staff a regional priority, we’ve made some changes to our scholarship program!

    This year, there will be three types of scholarships offered:

    1. Two scholarships to the National Conference for $1500 each.
    2. Five scholarships to the Regional Workshop for $150 each.
    3. Three scholarships for NAI Certification courses at up to $250 each.

    If you want to go to the National conference in Denver coming up this November, but feel it’s out of reach – think again! The Board of Directors and the Scholarship Committee are pleased to announce that, due to the generosity of members who bought region merchandise and auction items at our spring workshop, we are able to offer TWO scholarships of $1500 each to our members.

    Sierra Pacific Region Awards Program

    Do you know any interpreters who do amazing work but get very little recognition?

    We are pleased to be revitalizing the Sierra Pacific Regional Awards Program! As a Cropped Award SHUTTERmember of NAI, you are exposed to outstanding and inspiring programs and professionals. The Sierra Pacific Region hopes to recognize outstanding achievements and showcase the successes of NAI members and others working to advance the profession of interpretation.

    The regional program closely parallels the national program for professional awards. The requirements are a little simpler, but hopefully our program will feed applicants into the national program.

    At this point the regional program is in draft format. You will find the draft here: Regional Awards. We welcome your comments as we finalize the requirements. You can expect to see a formal call for nominations in November, with the actual awards presented next year at our annual spring workshop!

    Conference registration and check in is 2:00PM to 6:00PM at Angelo’s Hall. Dinner begins at 6:00PM at Angelo’s Hall in Columbia State Historic Park. Our full bulletin for the weekend will be posted soon.

  • DEADLINES EXTENDED

    DEADLINES EXTENDED until February 15 for the Sierra Pacific Workshop!

    delivery-07Because so many of you may have been affected by the Federal Government shutdown, we have extended the deadlines to submit Call-for-Presenters and Scholarship applications for the upcoming Sierra Pacific (Region 9) Workshop, April 5-7 in Columbia, CA.

    Scholarships for the regional workshop are open to any Sierra Pacific Region member, based on need. The deadline is now Friday, February 15. The Scholarship application here.

    Presentation proposals to give a talk at the workshop are also due on Friday, February 15. The Call-for-Presenters application is here.

    The Workshop Committee is in full swing, preparing for our annual gathering. We hope you will join us in Columbia, to rediscover, refocus, refresh or perhaps reach out for the first time with your fellow interpreters.

    presentations and presenters that seek beyond the usual stories and approaches, to reflect a broader spectrum of peoples, places and ideas. What “under-told” tales have you brought forward?     We are looking for nominations for “Interpreter(s) of the Month” for the NAI Region 9 Newsletter. If you work with someone who shows dedication and passion doing what they love to do, then please let us know about them! We want to recognize the good work being done in our Region.
